Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. Four men reportedly smashed display cases with sledgehammers and stole pricey watches from London Jewelers in the Wheatley Plaza shopping center in Greenvale around 4 p.m. on Saturday. Nassau County police are searching for the robbers, who they described as four black men dressed all in black who took off in a car heading towards Northern Boulevard. Anyone with information is asked to please call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or 911. (Patch)
  2. Multiple shark sightings continued at Nassau County beaches over the weekend, as two sharks were actually caught by fishermen at Jones Beach on Saturday morning. According to the New York state parks department, a fisherman caught a 4- to 5-foot-long shark at 8 a.m. and lifeguards then prohibited swimming in the ocean for an hour. Another fisherman caught another shark within a couple of hours, and a third shark was spotted at West End 2, delaying swimming for two more times that day. (CBS New York)
  3. Some good news on the economic front: the average gas price on Long Island is $4.55, which is down 15 cents from last week and down 47 cents overall in the last month. Our prices are on par with the national average, which is $4.52, and is 14 cents lower than the New York average gas price of $4.69. (News12 Long Island)
