Large Tree Falls on Sleeping Woman in Great Neck
The woman is in serious condition after the Monday morning incident.

A 20-year-old woman is in serious condition after a large tree fell on top of her while she was sleeping in her Great Neck home monday morning.
According to authorities, the 5,000-pound tree unexpectedly fell over, struck the roof and collapsed into the bedroom of a Wooleys Lane East home at 12:04 a.m.

The woman, who was asleep at the time, was pinned down by the tree and the debris that fell on top of her.
Five different types of responders came to the woman’s rescue, including Great Neck Vigilant and alert fire companies, Nassau County Police Emergency Service Unit personnel, Emergency Ambulance Bureau technicians, Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office and the Nassau County Tactical Rescue Team.

The responders were able free the woman from under the 5,000-pound tree after about two hours.
Vigilant Chief Josh Forst said, “It was a great example of how five different entities can work closely together and get one job accomplished.”
The fact that the woman was sleeping on her side may have saved her life, fire officials told NBC. The publication reports the cushioning from the bed may have also absorbed some of the shock.
She was taken to an area hospital for treatment of multiple trauma injuries and is listed in serious but stable condition.
