  1. Following the sentencing of former Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano to 12 years in prison for public corruption, his wife, Linda, was sentenced to 15 months of jail time. Prosecutors were seeking a sentence of 2.5 years for Linda, who was found guilty of lying to the FBI about a lucrative no-show job she held. During the years her husband was Nassau County Executive, Linda was paid $450,000 by restaurateur Harendra Singh without doing any work. (Mineola Patch)
  2. New York Islanders legend Mike Bossy, a four-time Stanley Cup champion from 1980-83, died Thursday in Montreal after battling lung cancer. He was 65. After being inducted into the NHL Hall of Fame in 1991 and retiring, Bossy worked for the Islanders in the sponsorship, fan development and community relations departments, and was also a hockey analyst on TVA Sports network in Quebec.   3. Stuart Rabinowitz, the former longtime president of Hofstra University in Hempstead, has joined law firm Meltzer, Lippe, Goldstein & Breitstone headquartered in Mineola as a senior counsel. Rabinowitz, who also co-chaired the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council for many years, brings years of experience and connections to the full-service law firm that assists businesses and individuals.
