Major Crimes Down 31 Percent In Nassau County: Officials
"We are absolutely going in the right direction in Nassau County," Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said.

MINEOLA, NY—Major crimes in Nassau County have dropped by a third from 2009 to 2019, according to Nassau County officials. During a recent news conference, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran said there were 5,366 major crimes reported in the county in 2019, which is a 31 percent drop from a decade ago. Ten years ago, county officials said 7,830 major crimes were reported.
"Thanks to the combined efforts of our law enforcement, both sworn and civilian, Nassau County continues to reduce crime to historic lows," Curran said. "Today and everyday, we are grateful for the brave men and women who serve and protect our communities.
According to county officials, commercial burglaries have also gone down by 43 percent since 2009. Residential burglaries are down 79 percent since 2009. Commercial robberies are down 44 percent since 2009 and street robberies are down 64 percent since 2009.

From 2010 to 2019, violent crime also dropped by 22 percent. According to authorities, 16 homicides were reported last year, compared with 17 in 2018.
