🌱 Man Arrested For 18 Illegal Guns + North Hempstead "Sheds The Meds"

Here are the top stories today in Mineola:

  1. A Manhasset man was arrested Thursday afternoon after Nassau County police found 18 illegal handguns in his home at 63 Circle Drive. Matthew Spigner, 69, was taken into custody and charged with criminal possession of a weapon according to authorities, who said Spigner will be arraigned "when medically practical." (Patch)
  2. Residents of the Town of North Hempstead (which includes Mineola) can safely throw out unused and expired medications at the town's first "Shed the Meds" event of 2022 on Saturday, April 9. The event will be held in the parking lot of Town Hall at 220 Plandome Rd. in Manhasset from 8 a.m. to noon. Items that you can drop off, so that they don't wind up in the wrong hands, include prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins and medications for pets. (Patch)
  3. The Viscardi Center in Albertson, a non-profit organization that helps people with disabilities, will honor tennis great John McEnroe and Westbury native Steve Serio, co-captain of the Paralympic Gold Medal USA men's wheelchair basketball team, at its 55th annual Celebrity Sports Night on May 19.
