Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- A Glen Cove man was arrested three times in less than eight hours on March 3, according to officials. Brian Perez, 28, was arrested by Glen Cove police around 5 a.m. for criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was released without bail, and then stole $44 worth of cigars from a School Street business. Again, Perez was arrested and released without bail. Around 12:40 p.m., Perez reportedly stole $1,854 worth of merchandise at Neiman Marcus at the Roosevelt Field mall in East Garden City, and he was arrested for the third time. (Glen Cove Patch)
- In the upcoming Village of Mineola election on March 15, current Deputy Mayor Paul A. Pereira is running for mayor to replace Scott Strauss, who is not seeking re-election. Running for trustee is current Trustee Janine Sartori and Jeffrey Clark, former chief of the Mineola Fire Department and president of the Irish American Society of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens. Village Justice Scott Fairgrieve, who was elected in 2020, is now seeking a four-year term as village justice. All of the candidates are running uncontested. (Mineola American)
- At SUNY Farmingdale State College, Rams baseball team junior pitcher Stephen Clancy was named to the Pitcher of the Week Honor Roll after earning a relief victory in last week's opening game, allowing only one hit and fanning six hits over the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.
