First, today's weather:
A t-storm around in the p.m. High: 89, low: 71.
📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Mineola who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.
I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Mineola Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.
Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- A man found unconscious on the N27 NICE Bus in Glen Cove Monday morning later died from a suspected heroin overdose, according to authorities. The driver of the N27 bus, which runs from Hempstead to Glen Cove with stops in Albertson and Roslyn, discovered the man passed out on the back of the bus at the Bridge Street stop in Glen Cove. After calling EMS and police, the man was rushed to Northwell Hospital in Glen Cove where he died. (Patch)
- In light of recent shark sightings at Jones Beach and other Long Island locations, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman took a dip in the ocean at Lido Beach's Nickerson Beach to convince residents it is still safe to swim in the Atlantic. He said that drones, beach vehicles, boats and helicopters are all being utilized to spot sharks, and he encouraged people to always go with a partner and swim in lifeguard-protected areas. (CBS New York)
- Rock and roll icon and Long Beach resident Joan Jett is playing a free concert called "Nassau is Back" at the Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, on Saturday, July 30 at 8 p.m. Sponsored by Jovia Financial Credit Union, the event is intended to be a celebration after two+ years of COVID-19 restrictions, with a special VIP area for first responders, doctors and veterans with a valid ID on a first-come, first-served basis. You hold the key to prevent theft. Don't leave it in your car!" (Nassau County Police Department via Facebook)
- Family & Children's Association: "This incredible group of volunteers, from Goldman Sachs's Community TeamWorks initiative, joined FCA staff on Friday for a day of fun, giving back, and some hands-on home improvement. The volunteers helped to repaint the porches of Nassau Haven, FCA's shelter for youth experiencing homelessness (the only shelter of its kind in Nassau County). We are so grateful for Goldman Sach's Community TeamWorks initiative and look forward to hosting volunteers again in the future! #gsctw #goldmansachs #CommunityTeamWorks " (Family & Children's Association via Facebook)
