Man Drove Drunk With 4 Kids Unrestrained in SUV in Westbury: Police

The man was driving without headlamps on with 10 passengers in the vehicle Friday morning, police said.

WESTBURY, NY- A South Carolina man faces felony DWI charges after police said he drove drunk with his three children and teenage niece unrestrained in the car in Westbury on Friday morning.

According to authorities, Steve D. Marks, 35, was driving a 2011 Ford Expedition west on Old Country Road, near 111 Old Country Road, when police pulled the vehicle over for not having headlamps on at 2:55 a.m.

It was revealed that Marks was driving under the influence of alcohol with his two sons, ages 10 and 6, his daughter, age 14, his niece, age 14, and six other people in the car, police said.

The four minors were not properly restrained in the vehicle, police said.

Marks was placed under arrest without incident and the children were released to their mother and aunt who were passengers in the car. No injuries were reported and the vehicle was impounded.

Marks was charged with four counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated (Leandra’s Law,) four counts of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated, driving while impaired 1192.1 and various vehicle and traffic law violations.

He will be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead.
