Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- A car struck an 81-year-old man and killed him Saturday night in Hicksville, according to Nassau County police. The pedestrian was reportedly attempting to cross Jerusalem Avenue at Parc Lane at 7:15 p.m. and was hit by a 2005 Honda Civic going north. The man was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital. The 20-year-old male driver of the Honda was not injured, and no criminal charges were filed. (Hicksville Patch)
- School winter break for Nassau County children is here and have no fear if you did not take a trip away. Plenty of fun family activities are available in our area, whether it's an outdoor activity like ice skating at Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn or Iceland in New Hyde Park, or an indoor educational experience at the Cradle of Aviation Museum in Garden City. - In honor of National Heart Health Month, longtime soap opera star and Garden City resident Susan Lucci shared her own story of heart disease and urged women to make their heart health a priority. Lucci recounted how she was shopping at the Americana shopping center in Manhasset when she felt crushing chest pain and was rushed to St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center in Roslyn. Lucci was found to have a 90 percent blockage in an artery, but Dr. Richard Shlofmitz successfully implanted a stent and saved her life. (CBS New York)
