Man Tried To Take Nassau Officer's Gun: Police
An officer was injured during the arrest, police say. The man had destroyed a martini glass in front of his 1-year-old daughter, police say.

CARLE PLACE, NY — A Uniondale man accused of trying to snatch an officer's gun after he smashed a glass in front of his 1-year-old daughter at a steakhouse was arrested in Carle Place on Tuesday, Nassau police said.
An officer was injured during the arrest of David A. Meikle, 30, police said.
Officers were called to Fogo de Chão Brazilian Steakhouse, at 235 Old Country Road, Garden City, sometime before 4:25 p.m. Tuesday for a disturbance between a woman and Meikle, police said. Meikle destroyed a martini glass in front of their daughter, police said.

Officers saw Meikle try to run away, but he was found on the Meadowbrook State Parkway, police said. As the officers tried to arrest him, Meikle attempted to take an officer's gun, police said. One officer suffered an injury, as Meikle was "violent and combative while resisting arrest," police said.
The officer was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injury, police said.

An investigation found Meikle violated an order of protection which the woman and the child have against him, police said. He also tried to forcefully steal car keys from the woman and slapped an employee of Fogo de Chão before police arrived, police said.
Meikle was charged with one count of second-degree assault, one count of third-degree assault, two counts of third-degree attempted robbery, one count of endangering the welfare of a child, one count of resisting arrest, one count of obstructing governmental administration, one count of petty larceny, one count of fourth-degree criminal mischief, one count of second-degree harassment, and one count of first-degree criminal contempt.
His arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday at First District Court, at 99 Main St., Hempstead.
