🌱 Manganos Start Sentence In August + New Nassau Health Commissioner

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Mineola.

(Patch.com)

Hello there, Mineola! I'm here in your inbox today to tell you everything you need to know about what's going on in town. Here's the lowdown.

First, today's weather:

Breezy in the afternoon. High: 94, low: 75.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Mineola who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Mineola Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top stories today in Mineola:

  1. Former Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano and his wife Linda will begin their jail sentences on Aug. 27, a month later than their previous start date, but a federal judge denied their request to remain free on bail while they appeal their convictions. According to Judge Joan Azarack, the Manganos "have not raised substantial questions that are likely to result in reversal or an order for a new trial on all of their convictions." Ed Mangano's sentence is 12 years, while Linda Mangano's is 15 months. (Patch)
  2. The Nassau County Department of Health in Mineola has hired a new health commissioner: Dr. Irina Gelman, who is leaving her role as health commissioner of Orange County, New York to take the position. Gelman replaces Dr. Lawrence E. Eisenstein, who resigned last month after more than a decade as Nassau's health commissioner. (News 12 Long Island)
  3. Theater technical director Joseph Lazarus, an alumnus of Mineola High School, is bringing his expertise to a local production of "Godspell" on the Jersey Shore after 30 years overseeing shows at the Tropicana Atlantic Casino in Atlantic City. Grammy winner Stephen Schwartz wrote the music and lyrics for "Godspell," and Lazarus worked closely with him on productions at Mineola High School and Carnegie Mellon University.
