Sen. Jack M. Martins, R-Mineola, and Winthrop-University Hospital are sponsoring a free “mini-med school” program to help residents learn what to do in common medical emergencies. The program is set for Thursday, May 1, from 7-9 p.m. in the Nassau County Legislative Chamber at 1550 Franklin Avenue in Mineola.
Trained healthcare professionals will explain what residents should do in a medical emergency where someone is suffering from:
- Burns
- Choking
- Ear and eye trauma
- Falls
- Fractures and sprains
- Head injuries
- Hemorrhaging and wounds
- Poisoning
- Weather related injuries such as heat stroke or hypothermia
- Heart attack
- Shock
Also on the agenda: preventative steps on preparing for medical and other common emergency situations.
