  1. A male pedestrian was struck and critically injured in a Christmas Eve crash in Roslyn Heights allegedly caused by a drunk driver, according to Nassau County police. A 2007 Nissan Pathfinder driven by 24-year-old Oscar Fernando Suarez Marquez was traveling southbound on Mineola Avenue and struck a Toyota RAV 4 at about 11:36 p.m., causing the RAV 4 to then hit a 21-year-old man, police said. 2. North Hempstead Beach Park, the local beach in Port Washington for all residents of the Town of North Hempstead including Mineola, has received a $1,050,000 grant from New York state as part of a revitalization plan. The grant was presented to officials last week, who said that it will go toward restoring the 1.25-mile shoreline on Hempstead Harbor and protecting against future erosion for the 90-acre park. Upcoming renovations that are planned for later include an events stage, restaurant, athletic courts and sledding hill, among others. A large number of parking spots totaling eight acres will be transformed into green spaces. (The Island Now)
