Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- The Mineola Board of Education (BOE) responded to a state audit report that the Mineola Union Free School District mismanaged funds by collecting more taxes than needed, resulting in a budget surplus. The BOE explains that surplus funds at the end of a year are transferred for capital improvement projects the next year that benefit Mineola students and the entire community. (Mineola American)
- Eisenhower Park in Westbury is hosting Nassau County's first Halloween drive-in movie series, "Scared in the Park After Dark," starting Oct. 16. The free screenings featuring cult classics and family favorites will be located in parking lot 6A with space for up to 185 cars. (Mineola Patch)
- The Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps was awarded $283,000 in emergency COVID-19 aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and subsequently distributed personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Port Washington FD, Levittown FD, Oyster Bay FC #1, Albertson FC, Floral Park Ctr. FC, Great Neck Alert FC, Bellerose Terrace FC and Lawrence-Cedarhurst EMS. (The Island Now)
