Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- CityMD, an urgent-care clinic that offers PCR and rapid testing for COVID-19, is temporarily closing its Mineola location due to a staffing shortage. The clinic at 292 Herricks Rd. will be closed starting Wednesday, Dec. 29., as residents are advised to visit CityMD's other nearby location at 235 Glen Cove Rd. in Carle Place instead. City MD is also temporarily closing three other locations on Long Island, in Merrick, Bay Shore and Patchogue. No information was provided about when the clinics would reopen. (Mineola Patch)
- In an effort to provide more testing sites amidst a surge of demand, New Hyde Park-based Northwell Health opened two new drive-thru testing sites on Long Island on Tuesday, with one close by at Christopher Morley Park in Roslyn and the other at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. Both sites are by appointment only and offer self-administered PCR tests. The Roslyn location has the capacity to accommodate 500 people, and can expand that capacity if necessary. (News12 Long Island)
- A fatal overdose in East Meadow led to the Christmas Eve arrest of a drug dealer from Suffolk County who was also in East Meadow at the time, according to Nassau County police. Sean Crombie, 33, of Copiague tried to flee during the arrest by speeding off in his car, but he crashed into a police car. Police were then able to arrest him, as detectives reportedly found 80 wax envelopes containing heroin in his car. (Glen Cove Patch)
