Mineola Man Crashed Truck With Daughter Inside, Charged With DWI: Cops

Matthew Ryan, 42, was driving on Westbury Avenue when he drove into oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle, police said.

MINEOLA, NY — A Mineola man is accused of driving while intoxicated after he crashed his truck with his 13-year-old daughter inside, authorities said.

Nassau County police said Matthew Ryan, 42, was driving his 2014 Dodge Ram on westbound Westbury Avenue when he crossed into eastbound lanes of traffic and struck a 2021 Dodge Ram driven by a 42-year-old woman.

According to police, Ryan left the scene of the crash but stopped a few blocks away because of heavy damage to his tires. Police took him into custody without incident, authorities said.

According to police, Ryan's 13-year-old daughter was a passenger in the truck. Police said she was uninjured and released into the care of a relative.

The female driver struck by Ryan was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

In addition to multiple traffic citations, Ryan was charged with driving while intoxicated, assault, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to police. His arraignment was scheduled for Saturday.
