  1. New congressional redistricting maps that are planned to go into effect on Friday have been released, moving Mineola from the 4th Congressional District to the 3rd. The maps are being hailed as a victory for Republicans. As part of the 4th District, Mineola has been represented by Democrat Kathleen Rice since 2015. As part of the 3rd Congressional District, Mineola will be represented by Democrat Tom Suozzi, who is running for reelection in November. (liherald.com)
  2. The FDA has just authorized the use of the booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 as the virus spread continues to climb on Long Island. Officials are urging people to wear masks in all indoor locations as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has elevated the the risk of transmission in Nassau and Suffolk Counties to high.   3. Richard A. Serrell, a medical physicist for Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow until 1998, passed away at age 79. The Port Charlotte, Florida resident was born in Mineola on October 21, 1942 to Arthur and Ann Serrell. The family requests memorial donations in Richard's name be made to www.christianaid.org.
