Here are the top stories today in Mineola:

  1. Mineola residents cast their ballots to elect members to school boards and to accept or reject proposed school budgets on Tuesday. In the Mineola Union Free School District, Cheryl Lampasona, who was running uncontested, won a seat on the board, and the budget proposed with a 0% tax increase was approved. In the East Williston Union Free School District, David Keefe and Tasneem Meghji won school board seats and the budget passed. In the Garden City Union Free School District, Arthur Gnecco, William O'Donohue and Joseph Sileo won school board seats and the budget passed. (Patch)
  2. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman signed an economic and cultural agreement with the Shomron, a territory in the West Bank of Israel, at a ceremony at the Nassau County Executive and Legislative Building on Old Country Road in Mineola. Rabbis from congregations across Nassau were in attendance, including Rabbi Anchelle Perl of Chabad of Mineola, marking Nassau County's support of Israel in this occupied territory. (The Jewish Star)

NYU Long Island School of Medicine, located on the campus of NYU Langone Hospital - Long Island in Mineola, celebrated its first graduating class of 20 physicians at nearby Molloy College in Rockville Centre. Marking three years since the new medical school opened its doors as a first-of-its-kind, accelerated M.D. program, the graduates will practice in four primary care areas: family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology, as well as general surgery.
