The students were recognized for serving as role models to their classmates.

Mineola High School students Sofia Guirola and Elizabeth Ryan have been selected to receive the Students Building Bridges Award for serving as role models to their classmates.
Both students are integral parts of the school’s Student Service Center, and have served a combined total of approximately 200 service hours this year. Sofia and Elizabeth were honored for their efforts in building bridges across communities and creating a more civil society at Nassau County’s Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) program on Thursday, May 19, 2016 at Hofstra University's Student Center Theater. Each student received a citation from an elected official and a certificate from the Jewish Community Relations Council of Long Island.
