Mineola Village Board Notebook: Feb. 8

The Mineola  held a meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 8. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Election Inspectors

• The board approved a list of election inspectors for the village elections which will be held on March 20, 2012.
• According to Mineola Village Clerk Joseph Scalero said that the inspectors are subject to change, which is the reason for a complete list of their names being present.

Mammography Van

• Nassau County , R-New Hyde Park, requested the use of the west parking lot at the to park a mammography van for the purposes of holding a Nassau County “No Out-of-Pocket-Cost” Mammography Program on April 11 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
• “This is the unit that does mobile mammography screening at no out-of-pocket cost to residents,” Scalero said. “(Nicolello) makes all the arrangements to get the unit in, to staff it and to notify the public but we make the parking lot available.”

Evening Star Quilters Annual Quilt Show

• The board approved a request from the Evening Star Quilters for the use of the general purpose room for monthly meetings on the first Thursday of the month for the following dates from 7 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.: June 7; July 15, August 2; September 6; October 4; November 1; December 6; Jan. 3, 2013; Feb. 7, 2013; March 7, 2013; April 4, 2013, May 2, 2013.
• The board also approved a request from the Evening Star Quilters for the use of the community center general purpose room for monthly board meetings on the third Thursday of the month for the following dates from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.: June 21; July 19; August 16; September 20; October 18; November 15; December 20; Jan. 17, 2013; Feb. 21, 2013; March 21, 2013; April 18, 2013; May 16, 2013.
• The Evening Star Quilters also requested the use of the community center and two general purpose rooms for Friday, November 2 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, November 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, November 4 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for its . “This is a huge event,” Scalero said. “Each year has gotten larger and it’s a tremendous draw now to the village. People come from all over to view these quilts and in certain circles it’s a tremendous honor to be host to that.”

Other Board News

• The Birchwood Court Owners, Inc. requested the use of the community center auditorium for its shareholders informational meeting on Thursday, April 12 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
• The requested the use of the Field for their fourth grade picnic on Monday, June 4 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a raindate of June 7. “These are annual picnics which we have extended our facilities to the school district so that they can take their (students) outdoors and... it’s a lot of fun for the kids as a year-end event,” Scalero said.
