The Mineola held a meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 18. Here are some of the things you may have missed.
Snow Removal Preparation
- advised residents to remove their cars from the streets for forecasts dealing with two or more inches of snow or be ticketed.
- “We need to plow the streets, we need to clear the streets and again it’s about compliance, it’s not about revenue and we need the streets cleared,” he said. “Once we get the streets cleared, we can get the cars back on there.”

- The board approved a request from Kathleen Furka to participate in the health insurance buy-back program, pursuant to the current collective bargaining agreement. A clause in the agreement allows an employee who is covered under a spouse’s health insurance to opt out of the village’s health insurance. Employees who opt out receive a payment twice a year which is a portion of the health care premium.
- Approval was granted to hire a candidate for a clerical position at the village hall assigned to the . The job is a civil service position, going through the appropriate civil service lists and the candidate is a Mineola resident who was interviewed by both the fire department and the mayor.
Other Board News
- The Birchwood Court Owners, Inc. were granted use of the auditorium for their annual shareholders meeting to be held on Tuesday, May 8 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This is the first of what the village expects to be two requests as some years have informational meetings as well as shareholders meetings.
- The Mineola “” to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Jericho Terrace. Tony and Harry Lubrano, the organizers of the event are seeking sponsorships, which is approximately $3,000. This year the fundraising goal is set at $100,000, which will go toward leukemia and lymphoma research.
