The Mineola Village Board of Trustees held a meeting on Wednesday, May 1. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Use Requests

  • Corpus Christi Church was granted permission to use the village’s streets for a devotional procession on Sunday, May 13 from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. using the following route: Garfield East to Willis Avenue, south to Second Street, turn around (U-turn - will not block Second Street), north on Willis Avenue to Garfield West to starting place at the church.
  • The Evening Star Quilters were granted use of the community center general purpose room for monthly meetings on the first Thursday of the month for the following dates from 7 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.: June 6, July 11, August 1, September 5, October 3, November 7, December 5, Jan. 2, 2014, Feb. 6, 2014, March 6, 2014, April 3, 2014, May 1, 2014.
  • The Evening Star Quilters were granted use of the community center general purpose room for monthly meetings on the third Thursday of the month for the following dates from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.: June 20, July 18, August 15, September 19, October 17, November 21, December 19, Jan. 16, 2014, Feb. 20, 2014, March 20, 2014, April 17, 2014, May 15, 2014.
  • The Golden Age Club was granted use of the west classroom for an executive board meeting on Thursday, July 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and for use of the west classroom for registration of new members on Thursday, July 25 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
  • The Mineola American Legion Memorial Post No. 349 was granted use of village streets on Monday, May 27 and the community center general purpose room on Saturday, May 25 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and on May 27 to conduct the Memorial Day parade and ceremony beginning at 9 a.m.
Personnel
  • The board approved the hiring of Michael Stanco in a temporary position to fill a vacancy at the deputy treasurer position due to maternity leave.
Building Department
  • The building department estimates the April total for permits and related items at $25,000.
  • The estimates for the court for the month of April were approximately $3,500.
2013 Night on the Town
  • The 2013 Night on the Town benefitting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will be held on May 22 at 7 p.m. at Jericho Terrace.
  • Last year the event raised more than $72,000.
  • Tickets are $100 or $35 for seniors at Piccola Bussola restaurant.
