The Mineola  held a meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 19. Here are some of the things you may have missed.

Water Department Roof

  • The board approved request for a change order for the roofs for the village hall and fire department.
  • According to Superintendent of Public Works Tom Rini, the change order would be the new roof system out of the existing water department offices.
  • “Back in August we had the two very heavy rain storms and then again with Hurricane Irene we found that we had developed some leaks in a number of locations in that building, more specifically behind our water control panel that controls all of our wells and how they operate and integrate into our system,” Rini said.
  • The village is currently working on installing a new $750,000 computerized system at the facility. The cost for the new roof would be $53,000, which would come out of the water fund.
  • The roof also comes with a 20 year lifespan and a 20 year guarantee.
  • “We can’t have that building leak like that, especially if we’re putting in a new computerized system,” deputy mayor Paul Pereira said, referring to water seeping in when tropical storm Irene hit.
