Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. Residents came out on a beautiful summery day this year to pay tribute to our soldiers at the Mineola Memorial Day Parade on Monday, the first time it has been officially held since 2019. Marchers included the Mineola Fire Department and Boy Scouts Troop 45 of Mineola, who together organized this year's parade, as well as the Mineola High School Mustang Marching Band, the Mineola Chamber of Commerce, the Portuguese Heritage Society, Chaminade High School and the Long Island Portuguese Lions. (Village of Mineola)
  2. Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman started a county-wide moment of silence to honor the military on Memorial Day, kicking it off in Massapequa Park at the town's festivities on Monday. At noon, sirens blared, and everything stopped for 50 seconds. Nassau County officials hope this will be an ongoing tradition for years to come. (CBS New York)
  3. One lucky person won $1 million in Saturday's Powerball drawing with a ticket sold at the Mobil gas station at 791 Stewart Ave. in Garden City, as announced by the New York Lottery Sunday morning. The ticket was one of two second-prize winning tickets and only one number away from winning a $150 million Powerball jackpot. (Mineola Patch)
