Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. NYU Langone Hospital in Mineola was given an A rating for safety by the national watchdog organization The Leapfrog Group in its 2021 rankings of general hospitals in the U.S. The group evaluates how well hospitals prevent medical errors, injuries, infections and accidents that harm or kill patients. Another nearby hospital, St. Francis Hospital & Heart Center in Roslyn, also earned an A rating, while North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset received a C rating. (Garden City Patch)
  2. A man was shot to death and left lying in the road Wednesday night in Uniondale according to the Nassau County Police Department, which is investigating the incident. Officers were called to the intersection of Alexander Avenue and Lee Road at 8:50 p.m. for an account of a man lying in the street. If anyone has information, please call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS; you will remain anonymous. (Mineola Patch)
  3. Mineola High School has named its valedictorian and salutatorian for the class of 2022. Alvin Tsai, who is a founder of the school's Computer Science Honor Society and Coding Club, is valedictorian; and Katherine Ahn, the recording secretary and treasurer of the National Honor Society, is salutatorian.
