Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- WNBC/4 traffic reporter Lauren Scala announced that she is leaving the station after 13 years. The Mineola native was part of NBC's morning show, "Today in New York." A spokesman for the station said that Scala had told them during the summer that she wanted to leave to pursue new challenges. Scala will still air on NBC periodically to do feature segments. (Newsday)
- A man who smashed multiple storefronts and car windows with a shovel in Uniondale was arrested Wednesday morning. Dwight Clermont, 26, of Amityville, was charged with six counts of second-degree criminal mischief and seven counts of third-degree criminal mischief for damaging cars on Lawrence Street near Hempstead Turnpike and store windows further down the block. Police officers found him a short time later in Hempstead. (Garden City Patch)
- The Roosevelt Field mall in Garden City is constantly updating its retail offerings, and one novel approach is giving a brick-and-mortar space to online-only retailers. Jeweler Blue Nile was the first, followed by UNTUCKit men's shirts and Bonobos men's clothing, Madison Reed hair color, Clientele athletic shoes and Hope & Henry clothing. Nancy Gilbert, Roosevelt Field's marketing director from Simon Property Group, said that new stores from online-only retailers are an exciting draw for consumers. (Garden City Patch)
