Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- The owner of the pricey Morgan Parc apartment building in downtown Mineola is trying to secure another 10 years of property tax breaks in order create more affordable units. The proposal by Lalezarian Properties would increase the number of lower rent apartments in the building at 199 Second St. from 27 to 40 over the next 18 years, and would be rented to individuals and families with incomes equal to 80 percent or less of Long Island's median income, which ranges from $66,450 for one person to $125,300 for a household of eight. (Newsday)
- Adelphi University recently honored local high school students with a Prize for Leadership that recognized their academic achievements and service to the community. Seven local students were selected, including Garden City High School's Kaitlyn E. Fuoco, Ryann Henry, Paige Pryor and Kasey Prybylski, as well as Cara Griffin and Mia Takvor from Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead, and Alyssa Jeffrey from Fusion Academy in Woodbury. (Garden City News)
- A new restaurant in Port Washington features a novel dining concept, offering multiple cuisines from a variety of acclaimed chefs instead of one single cuisine. Restaurant X at 170 Main St. debuted last month by co-owner Gabriel Moro, who has opened 15 restaurants, including other local trendy spots Hendrick's Tavern in Roslyn and Cipollini in Manhasset. Moro explained that guest chefs may be present for short spurts of time; others will contribute menus to Restaurant X's head chef and staff, who will interpret them in their own style.
