One day after turning a 5-1 deficit into a 7-6 victory, the Mineola Mustangs varsity baseball team were routed by Valley Stream North 15-1.

For the Spartans, starting pitcher Kevin White tossed six stellar innings, allowing only a run in the second inning, while fanning three, walking three and scattering three hits. He retired the final seven batters that he faced.

"He been getting better and better as the season has gone on," said Valley Stream North head coach Phil Sanfilippo. "He throws a heavy ball and when he pumps the zone, guys usually don't square him up too often. We've had good results when he's on the mound."

Of course, they also did a great deal of damage at the plate.

Billy Patsos led the way with a 3-for-4 performance, hitting a double in the second inning, reaching on an error in the third, hitting an RBI triple in the fourth and droving in two runs with a single in the fifth.

He was the only batter on the Spartans to compile a multiple hit day. A majority of the runs came by walks.

The Mustangs actually got off to a 1-0 lead on a RBI single by Kenny Faath in the top of the second inning.

Mineola starter Nick Iadevaio tossed a 1-2-3 first inning with only six pitches. It came apart in the second, however, he allowed a two-out two-run triple by James Celeberti that gave the Spartans a 2-1 which they never relinquished.

The third inning was even more of a struggle. Iadevaio walked the first three batters of the inning, recorded a strikeout to get the first out, but walked in a run after that. A potential double play ball was botched, allowing another run to score and a sacrifice fly by Giuliante drove in another.

Farrell came in relief at that point and struck out the tenth batter of the inning.
The Spartans also batted around in the fifth inning off Mersim Redzematovic. That inning saw 11 batters come to the plate, with six coming around to score. There were RBI singles by Anthony Martelli, James Capoziello, Billy Patsos and James Celeberti.

The loss drops the Mustangs to 5-8 in the Conference, 7-8 overall and eliminates them from playoff contention.

"That's the disappointing thing," said Mineola head coach Helms Bohringer. "To go out one day and play well, then come out the next day and play very poorly. We're a young team and we need to learn how to play every day. Right now we're not there."
