Nassau County K9 Officer Passes Away

Jake, a 10-year veteran of the NCPD, died peacefully over the weekend, police said.

The Nassau County Police Department announced the death of K9 officer Jake today.

According to the police, Jake, a 10-year veteran of the NCPD, died peacefully over the weekend.

Jake joined the NCPD in 2009 and worked those 10 years with officer Jeff Shaikh. The department said that, over the years, the two partners arrested numerous criminals, got millions of dollars worth of drugs off the streets and helped find missing people and reunite them with their families.

Most famously, the police said that, in 2015, Jake found Joshua Golson-Orelus, who had killed Hany Awad, a gas station attendant.
