- Motorcycles can be easily hidden in a car’s blind spot or masked by objects like, bushes, fences, bridges, etc. Take an extra moment to look for motorcycles, whether you’re changing lanes or turning at an intersection.
- It is difficult to judge a motorcycle’s speed or distance. Assume a motorcycle is closer than it appears.
- Often motorcyclists will down shift to slow down thus not activating brake lights, so allow for more distance, approximately two car lengths.
- Be cautious of motorcycles that may be avoiding roadway debris, it may cause them to suddenly drift to the right or left of their lane or cause them to abruptly change lanes.
- Stopping distance for a motorcycle is similar as for cars, but slippery conditions makes stopping quickly difficult. Allow more following distance during inclement weather.
