Nassau County Police Respond to Dallas Attacks With Increased Patrols

Police look to intensely monitor social media outlets for possible threats.

Nassau County officials say they are upping the ante on police patrols and security following the Dallas sniper attacks that killed five police officers and injured seven others during a Black Lives Matter protest Thursday night.

The Nassau County Police Department will be intensifying patrols in areas of public gatherings and certain locations to ensure the safety of the public and its officers. They will also intensely monitor social media outlets.

If anyone sees any possible threats to public safety posted on social media, the NCPD asks residents to call 911. Tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.

NCPD will also be working with local and federal authorities to assess threats on the national and local scale. The department will be doubling the number of officers in each of their patrol vehicles for the time being.

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Acting Commissioner of Police Thomas C. Krumpter offered their prayers and condolences to the Dallas Police Department and families of the police officers that were killed and injured Thursday night in Dallas, Texas.

In response to these attacks, County Executive Mangano has requested the the American flag to be flown at half-staff at all Nassau County government buildings through Thursday, July 14.
