Here are the top stories today in Mineola:

  1. The Nassau County Police Department reports that applications for pistol permits have increased 150 percent since the Supreme Court did away with a New York state law banning concealed carry permits for most people. However, Gov. Kathy Hochul also quickly pushed through a law that increased the list of crimes that disqualify gun ownership, makes background checks more thorough, and requires applicants to share their social media accounts for review. (1010 WINS)
  2. The Black Sheep Ale House in Mineola has been named one of the top 10 beer gardens in both Nassau and Suffolk counties by the Long Island Press. At the corner of Second Street and Roslyn Road, this craft beer house offers more than 75 different bottled beers, as well as 25 beers on tap and even a hand-drawn ale from a cask. (Long Island Press)
  3. While the job market typically slows a bit in the summer months, several new interesting opportunities in our area have surfaced. Neiman Marcus at the Roosevelt Field Mall in East Garden City is seeking a client advisor for its Precious Jewelry department, which offers the right candidate the chance to build relationships with customers and earn commissions.
