In what may be the best idea in Town history, nearly 100 happy dogs splashed into a local pool on Tuesday to celebrate the end of summer for the first ever Doggy Pool Party.
The dogs dipped into the Clinton G. Martin Park pool in New Hyde Park right before the pool was drained.
“It was certainly a rousing success,” North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth said in a statement. “We look forward to future doggie pool parties here at Clinton G. Martin Park as well as other Town pools in order to open this up to more communities in our Town.”

The Town of North Hempstead has been more welcoming of our furry friends as of recent. So far this summer, the Town made it a violation to leave a dog in a hot car and allowed dog owners to bring their dogs on leashes to North Hempstead Beach Park, Mary Jane Davies Green and Tully Park.
The pool party was open to residents of the New Hyde Park Park District. The Town successfully issued 33 dog licenses during the event.
