Long Island Man Choked Girlfriend, Beat Man With Metal Trophy: Police

The 23-year-old was charged with attempted murder Monday, police said.

A New Cassel man was charged with attempted murder Monday after police said he choked his girlfriend and repeatedly beat a man with a trophy for reportedly ruining his relationship.

According to authorities, Ariel Garcia, 23, became involved in a verbal and physical confrontation with his 21-year-old girlfriend where he choked her and prevented her from calling the police at 4:30 a.m.

Garcia then left in a taxi, with a metal trophy in hand, threatening to kill a man who Garcia believed ruined his relationship with his girlfriend, police said.

Garcia arrived to the 31-year-old man’s Hicksville home at 6 a.m. and struck him numerous times with the trophy, causing him a serious head injury, police said.

The 31-year-old was able to call police after Garcia left and was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a skull fracture, according to police.

Garcia later called 911 and surrendered himself to police when he was in Westbury.

He was charged with second degree attempted murder, first degree assault, second degree strangulation, first degree unlawful imprisonment, third degree assault, fourth degree criminal mischief and fourth degree possession of a dangerous weapon.

He will be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
