Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. The MTA LIRR has opened a new parking garage at the LIRR Mineola station. The 551-space garage, managed by the Village of Mineola, is located west of Mineola Boulevard between Harrison Avenue and First Street. Previously, the location had ground-level parking of 105 spaces, but the new multilevel garage with an elevator has added 446 spaces to serve both LIRR commuters as well as visitors and businesses of downtown Mineola.   2. A truck crashed through several rooms of a Westbury house on Cypress Lane at 12:50 a.m. Thursday — including a room where a teenager was sleeping — before landing in a neighbor's yard. The driver of the Chevy Silverado ran away from the crash on foot but was caught and arrested nearby. (abc7NY)
  3. Nassau County police report that a 10-year-old girl riding a bicycle in New Hyde Park was struck by a car just before 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The girl was heading towards an ice cream truck on the corner of N. 11th Street and Park Avenue when she was hit by a 2020 Hyundai Elantra driven by a 20-year-old woman, who remained at the scene. The victim was taken to North Shore LIJ Cohen Children's Hospital in New Hyde Park to be treated, and an investigation is underway. (Patch)
