The commissioner of North Hempstead's building department is stepping down in May after six years of service, Newsday reports.
Kevin Cronin began serving as Department of Building, Safety Inspection and Enforcement commissioner in 2008. He told Newsday that he was leaving on his own accord.
Cronin began his tenure at North Hempstead after criminal charges were filed against Town of North Hempstead employees after a 16-month probe into allegations of corruption involving the permitting process that resulted in several jail sentences, including the previous building commissioner.
