Here are the top stories in Mineola today:

  1. Money magazine and The Leapfrog Group, a health care nonprofit, named NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island in Mineola one of this year's 148 Best Hospitals in America. NYU Mineola is the only hospital on Long Island to be given this honor, for excellence in several factors: quality of care, safety, highly ranked patient experiences and ethical treatment, all of which ultimately affect patients' cost of care. (Becker's Hospital Review)
  2. Former Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano will start his 12-year prison sentence two weeks later than initially scheduled on July 27 instead of July 13 thanks to a federal judge, Joan Azrack. She is reportedly considering a petition from Mangano to remain out on bail while appealing his conviction, but for now he is set to start his prison term on the same day as his convicted wife, Linda Mangano. (Patch)
  3. If you are looking to drive less than a half-hour from Mineola and feel like you really left our semi-crowded corner of the 'burbs, Newsday recommends the beach community of Point Lookout. Lido Boulevard offers a quaint, Main Street feel and many great restaurants to dine in and escape for a few hours, including J.A. Heneghan's Tavern and The Point, which is co-owned by soon-to-be departing News12 anchor Elisa DiStefano. (Newsday)
