Officer Hurt Making Probation Visit In Nassau: Police

MINEOLA, NY — A Great Neck man was arrested late Tuesday afternoon in Mineola, as officers were needed to assist Nassau County Probation in Mineola, police said.

Michael Thomas, 24, was not complying with verbal commands and resisted as the probation officer attempted to place him in custody, authorities said.

Thomas got violent, striking the officer on his face with a closed fist, police said.

He was eventually placed in custody, but as a result of the incident an officer sustained injuries and was taken to an area hospital, police said.

Thomas is charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and an open Nassau County warrant for violation of probation. He is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
