Officers Save Man From Jumping Off Building In Nassau

EAST GARDEN CITY, NY - Two police officers saved a man who was about to jump off a building in Garden City on Monday morning, according to Nassau Police.

Third Precinct police responded to The Gallery at Westbury Plaza at 900 Old Country Road for a distraught 57-year-old man who was threatening to jump from a second floor elevated platform at about 10:21 a.m., police said.

The officers found the man and verbally engaged him from the lower level and the upper level assuring him they were there to help, police said.

Two officers on the upper level saw that the man was holding onto a railing as they were communicating with him. When the man removed his hands from the railing and it was imminent that the man would jump, the two officers pulled the man back to safety, police said.

The man was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. There were no other injuries reported.
