Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- A pedestrian was struck and killed early Monday morning while crossing Old Country Road in New Cassel. The 65-year-old male driver of a grey van hit the victim in the westbound lanes near Hilton Street. (Mineola Patch)
- New information has been released about the July car crash in Quogue that killed five people, including two brothers and a third man from Manhasset. The driver who hit an oncoming Uber was speeding at 106 mph just seconds before the crash on Montauk Highway. (The Island Now)
- The historic LIRR Nassau Tower on Main Street and Station Road in Mineola has been demolished to make way for the new 10-mile-long Third Track being built between Floral Park and Hicksville. LIRR President Phillip Eng said that they attempted to preserve the structure's history, but they ultimately needed to create a new path forward. (Subscription: Newsday)
