Here are the top stories in Mineola today:
- A pedestrian was struck and killed by a Long Island Railroad (LIRR) train just east of the Mineola station around 10:54 p.m. Tuesday night, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). It is uncertain why the individual, whose identity has not been released, was on the train tracks. The MTA is investigating. (Mineola Patch)
- Laura Curran, incumbent and Democratic candidate for Nassau County Executive, officially conceded to Republican candidate Bruce Blakeman after the Nassau Board of Elections finished counting all absentee ballots on Tuesday. The final results showed that Blakeman received a total of 142,626 votes, while Curran received 140,476. (msnNOW)
- Justice (Judge) Scott Fairgrieve recently opened the doors of the Mineola Village Justice Court to local college students looking to learn about its operations and procedures. During their tour, the students learned that the court presides over cases involving the Village of Mineola's ordinances, as well as parking tickets issued in the village. (Mineola American)
