Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- The Nassau County District Attorney's Office has offered a plea deal to Laura Parker Russo, the Herricks High School biology teacher accused of unlawfully giving a 17 year old a COVID-19 vaccine in her Sea Cliff home. Russo initially pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charge of unauthorized practice of a profession. Under the plea deal, Russo would plead guilty to the charges and perform 50 hours of community service, according to a district attorney spokesperson. Once completed, Russo would have a clean record and the misdemeanor plea would be vacated. (Patch)
- On the heels of Tuesday's protest for abortion rights in Mineola, State Senator Anna Kaplan (D-Carle Place) is planning a "We're Not Going Back" rally for this Saturday at the same location, the Nassau County Courthouse on Old Country Road. The rally to protest the potential overturning of Roe v. Wade is being coordinated with Planned Parenthood and several of Kaplan's Democratic partners in the Senate and Assembly. (Patch)
- Mineola-based Hanover Bancorp, Inc. is launching its initial public offering of common stock. The parent company of Hanover Community Bank is offering over 1.3 million shares at an initial price expected to be between $21 - $23 per share on the Nasdaq Global Select Market.
