Police: Burglars Steal $1 Million in Jewelry From Manhasset Store

Officers found one of the burglars on the roof Saturday morning, police said.

Two men were arrested after police said they burglarized a Manhasset jewelry store and stole items valued up to $1 million in cash Saturday morning.

Authorities responded to an alarm at Tiffany & Co., located at 1980 Northern Blvd., and saw Vitalii Trufanov, 40, on the roof of the building at 4:44 a.m., police said.

According to authorities, Trufanov was in possession of jewelry and watches valued in excess of $1 million in cash.

Officers searched the building and located Evgenii Zakhapov, 35, who was placed under arrest without incident.

Both suspects have no known address. The investigation is ongoing.

Trufanov and Zakhapov were charged with second degree grand larceny, third degree burglary and second degree criminal mischief. They were arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
