Police Officer Foils Multi-Million Dollar Heist in Hicksville
The burglars reportedly used a sledgehammer and other tools to break through concrete walls.

A police officer reportedly foiled a multi-million dollar heist after he noticed a group of individuals at Loomis Armored Inc. in Hicksville while he was on routine patrol on Sunday. Aug 16.
According to authorities, Edgar Medina, 53, of Brentwood, and the other burglars broke through concrete walls at Loomis Armored Inc., to open a vault and steal millions of dollars at 10:20 p.m.
The masked men used a sledgehammer, a hydraulic jack and other tools to break into the vault, which held about $20 million, CBS New York reports.

Acting Nassau County police commissioner Thomas Krumpter described the burglars as “extremely sophisticated” and said he doesn’t remember hearing about a “burglary of this size and magnitude”in the area before, according to the Long Island Press.
A police officer on routine patrol arrested Medina, CBS reports, after he was acting suspicious with the trunk of his car in the parking lot. The officer then chased after Medina, arrested him and found $1.8 million in his trunk, the publication reports.

Medina is charged with third degree burglary, first degree grand larceny and possession of burglar tools.
Authorities believe the burglars would’ve stolen the full $20 million in the vault if they had the chance, the Press reports.
Medina was arraigned on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at First District Court in Hempstead.
The investigation is continuing and detectives request anyone with information regarding the above crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
