Police: Man Drives Drunk With 3 Young Children in the Car in New Hyde Park
The children were found inside his pickup truck after a three-car crash Saturday night, police said.

Nassau Police arrested a man for driving drunk with three young children in the car after authorities responded to a three-car crash in New Hyde Park on Saturday night.
Police said they observed a man walking unsteady on his feet, with glassy eyes, slurred speech and a strong odor of alcohol detected on his breath after authorities responded to the scene of the accident at the intersection of Covert Avenue and 11th Street at 10:45 p.m.
Timothy McAleavey, 52, of Stewart Manor, was placed under arrest at the scene.

Authorities found three children, who were not related to McAleavey, in the rear of the suspect’s 2003 Ford pickup truck at the scene of the crash. The children, ages 1, 2 and 4, were released to their mother who was also inside McAleavey’s truck, police said. No injuries were reported.
McAleavey was charged with three counts of aggravated driving intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated, excessive tinted windows and three counts of rear passengers under the age of 4 unrestrained.

He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday.
