Here are the top stories today in Mineola:

  • As car thefts have nearly tripled in one year in our area, Nassau County police are urging residents not to leave key fobs in their vehicles. Local homeowners with security cameras on their property have caught robbers on camera, such as Old Westbury resident John Sarraf who saw on camera would-be thieves sneaking around his cars three times. Police report that 95% of cars that are stolen were unlocked with the key fobs inside. (CBS New York)
  • Two Williston Park businesses have been included on a list of New York's historic businesses. The Haller Agency, an insurance company. was founded in 1938 and moved to Hillside Avenue 40 years later. Four generations of Hallers have worked for the agency, with Nicholas Haller III joining in 2019 under CEO Raymond Haller. Albert Zolezzi Auto Body on Willis Avenue was started as a repair shop in 1947 by Albert Zolezzi Sr. and expanded when Albert "Joe" Zolezzi Jr. joined in 1968. Joe's wife and former East Williston Mayor, Nancy, currently run the business with their son, Albert. (The Island 360)

In June, Troop 45 will again have their Eagle Ceremony, celebrating the six scouts from the troop who have reached the highest scouting rank.
