VIDEO: Project Independence Office to Open in Mineola

In preparation for the opening of a local office for its senior service program, Project Independence, North Hempstead held an informational session at the Friday morning seeking to partner with local senior groups.

The new office is scheduled to open on February 5 and will be located at the offices on Third Street. It will be staffed by both part-time nurses and a part-time social worker, who will be responsible for home visits and counseling, assessments, support group services, and setting up community education programs.

The opening of the satellite office is part of the way town officials intend to reach out locally to Mineola residents over the age of 60, whose specific needs may be different than someone in Port Washington or Westbury.

The Mineola office will be the fifth such office which North Hempstead has opened with other locations in New Hyde Park, Great Neck, Port Washington and Roslyn.
