Here are the top stories today in Mineola:

  1. Three men mugged a couple walking in Roslyn Heights just after midnight on Friday, stealing a wallet, iPhone, watch and gold bracelet, according to Nassau County police who are asking anyone with information to please contact them. The victims, both 40, were reportedly on Hillside Avenue when three men got out of a car as one of them held a knife, demanding the duo's personal belongings. The assailants got back in their car and headed south on Mineola Avenue towards the Long Island Expressway. (Mineola Patch)
  2. In response to an incident where a Bronx man tried to physically block cars driving into Planned Parenthood in Hempstead, nearly 50 people rallied outside the Nassau County Courthouse in Mineola on Thursday night to show support for those seeking an abortion. Participants included politicians and local community members who feel strongly about keeping abortion access legal and safe in New York after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned national legalized abortion. 3. As the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale remains largely unused despite a $165 million renovation, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman is reviewing different plans to revive the property. Once the premier destination for New York Islander games and top-name concerts, the coliseum doesn't have an event scheduled until Oct. 1. But Blakeman said he is committed to making it thrive again and not tear the structure down, as locals note that is accessible from the Meadowbrook Parkway and just a short ride from the very active Mineola LIRR station.
