Here are the top stories today in Mineola:
- A Bethpage real estate developer, Steel Equities, is planning a $26.9 million purchase of a set of five Mineola industrial properties on East Second Street between Hudson and Senate streets, owned by Great Neck Saw, which is moving to another location. Steel Equities plans to renovate the site, which has been occupied by the hand tool manufacturer since 1941 and is in disrepair and attract a "high quality tenant." (The Island Now)
- A 28-year-old Hempstead man pleaded guilty to strangling his girlfriend to death and will receive 20 years to life in prison. According to Nassau County police, Sixto Tapia-Angeles also slit his girlfriend's throat in an attempt to cover up the murder, initially telling them that she committed suicide. (Press Release Desk)
- A series of mortgage foreclosure clinics will be held by the Nassau County Bar Association in Mineola starting Monday to help homeowners in danger of losing their homes. Attorneys at the clinics can help connect homeowners to bankruptcy lawyers, as well as nonprofit agency attorneys that could represent them. (Newsday)
