  1. Be prepared for a messy morning commute on Friday as 1-2 inches of snow is predicted for Long Island overnight, according to the National Weather Service. Snow may be mixed with sleet, then change to freezing rain and rain by daybreak. A winter weather advisory may be issued due to roads icing before precipitation changes over to rain.   2. Ukrainians on Long Island prayed for their homeland as Russia ignored economic sanctions and launched an attack on Ukraine. Expatriates gathered at St. Vladimir's Ukrainian Catholic Church at 709 Front St. in Hempstead to pray for their fellow Ukrainians. President Joe Biden and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand expressed sympathy and solidarity with the people of Ukraine. (News12 Long Island)
  3. A Hempstead man who gruesomely killed his mother, sister and sister's friend in 2017 has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison. Bobby Vanderhall, 39, pleaded guilty on Oct. 26, 2021, to first-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. According to Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly, Vanderhall killed the three women with a hammer and then used kitchen knives to stab his mother and sister multiple times.
